The Task Type selection in the Task detail window is a drop down that is heuristically created. Whatever Task Type is typed into the field will become part of the drop down.
If you have a drop down entry that you want to clear, find the tasks with that particular Task Type and DELETE them. Once they are deleted the Task Type choice associated with the task will disappear from the drop down.
